Profound Review (2026): Deep Data, Priced and Gated for Enterprise

A hands-on look at what Profound measures, what it actually costs, and which tier you need before it does the thing its feature pages advertise.

Profound's measurement method is among the most rigorously argued in AI search: it reads the consumer front ends of ChatGPT, Perplexity and the rest rather than querying model APIs, and it runs every tracked prompt daily because AI answers are never the same twice.

Starter runs $99 a month month-to-month and watches ChatGPT alone from one region with one seat. Growth is $399 for three engines and 100 prompts. The engine breadth, the 30+ languages and the 150+ regions on the feature pages all sit behind an Enterprise contract, and agencies pay $399 a month for every client workspace.

Look elsewhere, at ContentMonk or a comparable platform, if you want visibility across four engines, your Google rankings and the content that moves both, at a price published on the website.

02 · What Is Profound?

What is Profound?

Profound is an answer-engine-optimization platform that tracks how brands appear in AI search engines, then uses agents to create and publish content aimed at improving that position. It targets enterprise marketing teams, and describes itself as giving marketers "the full cycle of insight, action, and measurement."

One architectural decision explains most of how the product behaves. Profound does not query model APIs. It reads the consumer front ends that real people use, and it says so plainly: "Other tools pull AI responses from the API. We capture directly from the browser, what you see in Profound is what your customers see when they query AI." The reasoning is retrieval. ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot and Google AI Overviews all pull live web results into their answers, so an API call to a base model describes a different system from the one buyers care about.

That choice has a second consequence. Because AI answers are non-deterministic, a single reading tells you very little, so Profound runs every tracked prompt daily and reports an average. On Growth that works out to 9,000 analyzed responses a month from 100 prompts. When you read a Profound visibility score, you are reading a rolling average of real consumer answers rather than one snapshot from a model endpoint.

What are Profound's key features?

  • Answer Engine Insights: visibility score, share of voice, sentiment and keyword themes, citation authority, competitor rankings, platform comparisons
  • FactCheck: surfaces inaccurate AI claims with their sources and the ground truth
  • Prompt Volumes: a proprietary dataset estimating real search conversations on LLMs
  • Shopping: ChatGPT Shopping tracking, on Enterprise
  • Agent Analytics: infrastructure-level tracking of AI crawlers and AI-referred traffic
  • Profound Agents: autonomous workers that draft and publish content into WordPress, Sanity and Contentful
  • Profound Sheets: runs Agents at scale
  • Aim: the operate layer behind Projects, on Enterprise
03 · How We Tested

How we tested Profound

I spent a week and change on Profound's trial tier in mid-2026, on our own account. I set up tracked prompts and watched the visibility scores move, added competitors to compare share of voice, worked through the citation and source analysis, and looked at the agent analytics for our own domain.

Everything above that tier in this review comes from Profound's own pricing matrix, feature documentation and help center, and is attributed where it appears. That covers multi-region and multi-language tracking, the engines beyond the three on Growth, ChatGPT Shopping, Aim and Projects, the API, SSO, and the entire agency workspace model. I have not used any of them, and saying so is more useful than implying otherwise. Review evidence comes from G2, read directly on 30 July 2026.

04 · What It Does Well

What Profound does well

The measurement layer is where the product earns its reputation, so that is where this starts.

Browser-level capture: reading the answers customers actually get

Profound scrapes the consumer front ends of AI platforms instead of calling model APIs, and publishes its reasoning rather than leaving it as a marketing line. Consumer surfaces use retrieval to pull live web results into answers; a base-model API call does not. Their own framing is direct: what you see in Profound is what your customers see when they query AI.

This is the most defensible thing about the platform, and it is an engineering position with a real cost attached. It is worth knowing that Peec AI reaches the same conclusion in its own documentation and scrapes interfaces for the same reasons, so this is the serious end of category practice rather than something only Profound does. Either way, the visibility data describes the system a buyer is actually trying to influence.

Fig 4.a · Profound's visibility view, showing how often a brand appears in AI answers.

Key takeaway: Profound reads AI answers from the consumer interfaces rather than from model APIs, so its visibility data reflects the retrieval-based answers real users receive.

💡 Worth knowing which surface any tool you evaluate is actually reading, ContentMonk included. Answers pulled from a model API and answers pulled from a consumer interface come from different systems, and only one of them is what your buyers see.

Daily runs and averaged scoring: treating volatility as a measurement problem

AI platforms do not return the same answer twice, and Profound treats that as a methodology question rather than an inconvenience. Every tracked prompt runs daily and the visibility score reports an average across responses rather than a point reading. Growth analyzes 9,000 responses a month from its 100 prompts; Starter analyzes 1,500 from 50.

Daily frequency applies on every paid tier with no upcharge, which is not universal in this category.

Key takeaway: Profound runs every tracked prompt daily on all paid tiers and averages the results, so a visibility score reflects a trend rather than a single volatile answer.

💡 Daily runs are the right answer to non-deterministic output, and this is a parity point rather than a difference: ContentMonk also runs tracked prompts daily on every plan, for the same reason.

Citation and accuracy analysis: FactCheck has no direct equivalent

Beyond mention counts, Profound scores which domains and URLs influence AI answers about a brand and tracks their authority. FactCheck goes further and surfaces specific inaccurate claims AI platforms make, the sources feeding those claims, and the ground truth to correct against.

Nothing else in this category ships a direct FactCheck equivalent. For a brand whose problem is AI describing it wrongly rather than not describing it at all, that is the feature worth paying for.

Fig 4.b · Citation analysis, showing which sites drive AI answers about a brand.
Fig 4.c · FactCheck surfaces inaccurate AI claims alongside the sources behind them.

Key takeaway: FactCheck identifies false claims AI makes about a brand alongside the sources causing them, which is a distinct capability from measuring how often the brand appears.

Agents: an execution layer that publishes into your CMS

Profound sells autonomous agents that draft articles, briefs, landing pages and optimizations, route them to Slack for review, and stage or publish directly into WordPress, Sanity and Contentful. Profound Sheets runs them in bulk, and Agents are available on every tier. Reviewers rate them well, and one of the most positively titled reviews on G2 is about agents turning insights into action.

Any review claiming Profound only measures is wrong. The fair criticism concerns how the execution is packaged and metered, which the pricing section covers.

Fig 4.d · Response analysis, showing what AI says about a brand and its topics.

Key takeaway: Profound ships a working execution layer that publishes into major CMS platforms, so the gap between insight and action is a question of credits and packaging rather than missing tooling.

Enterprise readiness and crawler analytics: two places Profound is simply ahead

Profound is SOC 2 Type II compliant, supports SSO through SAML or OIDC, offers role-based access control, and runs daily backups. For any buyer whose procurement team has a checklist, that clears it.

Agent Analytics is the other genuine advantage. It monitors at infrastructure level, tracking which AI crawlers hit which pages and how often they return, across unlimited domains on every tier, with nine integrations including Akamai, AWS, Cloudflare, Fastly, Netlify, Vercel and Google Analytics. Most tools in this category, ContentMonk included, do not offer crawler-level log analytics at all.

Key takeaway: Profound pairs SOC 2 Type II and SSO with infrastructure-level AI crawler analytics on unlimited domains at every tier, a combination most competitors do not offer.

05 · Where It Falls Short

Where Profound falls short

Every limitation below comes from Profound's own published pricing matrix or from patterns in its review corpus, ranked by what costs a buyer money or access.

Starter tracks ChatGPT only: one engine for $99 a month

Profound's pricing matrix lists a single answer engine on Starter, and the plan card says "ChatGPT tracking only" in as many words. Three engines arrive on Growth: ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. The full set comes with Enterprise.

The gap between that and the marketing is wide. Profound's Answer Engine Insights documentation names eleven platforms it queries, including Claude, Gemini, Copilot, Grok, Amazon Rufus, Meta AI and DeepSeek. A paying reviewer on G2 raises exactly this, noting the platform is limited to a select number of LLMs and would benefit from broader coverage given how fast model market share moves.

Key takeaway: On Profound's entry tier, visibility tracking covers ChatGPT alone, so buyers comparing engine coverage should compare the tier they intend to buy rather than the platform's documented capability.

💡 The number worth comparing is engines at the tier you will actually pay for. ContentMonk includes ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Claude on every plan, with tiers raising prompt and keyword limits while the engine list stays the same.

One region and one language until Enterprise: the headline coverage claim is gated

Profound's feature documentation states the platform delivers multi-region and multi-language monitoring at scale, supporting 30+ languages and 150+ regions. Its pricing matrix lists one language and one region on Starter and on Growth, with custom values only on Enterprise.

Both statements are true. The capability exists; the entitlement below Enterprise does not. Any team selling into a second country has no self-serve route to measuring it, and the contrast with the field is unflattering: Peec AI's pricing FAQ states that queries can be tracked across any supported country or language at no additional cost, because its pricing is tied to prompt volume rather than geography.

Key takeaway: Multi-region and multi-language tracking requires an Enterprise contract, so the 150+ regions on Profound's feature pages are unavailable to any self-serve customer.

Agencies pay $399 a month per client workspace: the cost scales with the roster

Profound publishes a separate agency ladder. Agency Growth includes ten pitch workspaces a month for prospect audits, agency mode, consolidated billing and five seats. Full client workspaces are an add-on at $399 a month each, with extra trial workspaces at $199 a month per five. The base price for Agency Growth itself is not published.

An agency running five clients is therefore paying $1,995 a month in client workspaces before the base fee. Ten clients is $3,990 plus base. Agencies also lose most of the crawler analytics: the agency matrix lists Google Analytics as the only integration, against nine on the brand plans.

Key takeaway: Profound charges agencies $399 a month for each client workspace on top of an unpublished base fee, so the cost rises in a straight line with the number of clients.

💡 Per-client pricing scales linearly with a roster; per-workspace pricing does not. ContentMonk includes unlimited workspaces from the Pro plan, so adding a client raises usage limits rather than adding a line item. Worth modeling against your client count before signing either.

No native SEO or rank tracking at any tier: this is an AEO tool by design

Profound does not sell keyword research, Google rank tracking, or organic reporting built on Search Console. Agent Analytics covers AI crawlers and AI-referred traffic, which is a different job from knowing where you rank on Google and which queries are moving.

That is a scope decision rather than a failure, and Profound is clear about the category it plays in. It does mean a team that wants AI visibility and Google performance in one view needs a second subscription, and for a lean in-house team that is a real cost on top of $399 a month.

Key takeaway: Profound covers answer engines and not traditional search, so teams needing keyword research and Google rank tracking will run it alongside a second SEO tool.

Exports, API and seats are gated tightly: Starter is close to read-only

Starter includes no exports at all, and Profound's API is Enterprise-only. Seats run one on Starter and three on Growth. Reviewers who do have exports describe them as clunky, and separately ask for more flexible date ranges and comparisons in the visibility charts.

For $99 a month, a single user can look at ChatGPT data for one region and cannot take it out of the platform. That combination limits how a small team can actually operate.

Key takeaway: Profound's entry tier provides one seat and no data exports, and API access requires an Enterprise contract, so reporting outside the platform is impractical below Growth.

Price relative to the field: the most common complaint in its reviews

Cost is the theme that recurs most often across Profound's G2 reviews, more than the learning curve and more than any feature request. Reviewers describe it as expensive compared with tools they vetted, off-putting for smaller companies, and carrying an enterprise price tag that puts it out of reach of smaller operators. One agency reviewer could only run it for a single month because the client could not absorb the commitment that followed.

The arithmetic supports them, and it holds on either billing basis. Month to month, Growth is $399 for 100 prompts across three engines with three seats, while Peec AI charges $245 for 150 prompts across three engines of your choice with unlimited users. On annual billing the comparison is $332.50 against $205. Peec's figures were verified live on its own pricing page with both billing states toggled.

Key takeaway: Cost is the most frequently raised objection in Profound's own review corpus, and its mid-tier carries fewer prompts and fewer seats than similarly priced alternatives.

The prompt universe is not visible: agencies cannot fully show their working

One agency reviewer names this precisely, saying the absence of transparency into the underlying prompt dataset can materially limit the confidence and trust clients place in Profound's recommendations and reporting. The related gap sits in the product: Prompt Volumes exists as a proprietary dataset, but "Searches" is Enterprise-only, and reviewers on lower tiers report they cannot see volume for the prompts they track.

For an in-house team that may be tolerable. For an agency presenting findings to a client who asks where the prompts came from, it is a live problem.

Key takeaway: Profound does not expose the prompt dataset behind its recommendations below Enterprise, which makes it harder for agencies to defend the numbers to clients.

From the gap to the published page, without a second tool

Profound tells you where AI is not citing you, then meters the agent credits that would fix it and sells the SEO side separately. ContentMonk keeps tracking, prioritized opportunities and content production under one roof, and publishes to WordPress and Webflow.

06 · Pricing

Profound pricing: is it worth it?

Profound publishes two self-serve brand tiers and a custom Enterprise plan, plus a separate agency ladder where client workspaces are a $399 monthly add-on, and the engines, regions and seats most buyers want sit above the self-serve line. Most brands land on Growth, because Starter watches one engine with one seat and cannot export data.

How the billing toggle works: $99 is the month-to-month price

This is worth stating carefully because most third-party coverage has it backwards. Profound's pricing page defaults to month-to-month, where Starter is $99 and Growth is $399. Switching the toggle to yearly reduces those to $82.50 and $332.50 respectively, promoted as two months free, which works out to $990 and $3,990 a year.

Articles reporting "$99 a month billed annually" have inverted it. Annual billing lowers the price rather than being the condition of reaching it.

Key takeaway: Profound's $99 and $399 figures are month-to-month prices, and annual billing lowers them to $82.50 and $332.50 rather than being required to reach them.

💡 One thing to check on any AEO quote: whether moving up a tier grants access to features or only raises limits. ContentMonk includes every feature on every plan, so an upgrade adds prompts, keywords and articles while engines, exports and the API stay available throughout.

What an agency actually pays: the add-on model in numbers

Agency Growth's published structure prices client workspaces individually at $399 a month. Five clients is $1,995 monthly in workspaces, ten is $3,990, and the base fee sits on top of both and is not published. Trial workspaces for pitching come in bundles of five at $199 a month, over and above the ten pitch workspaces the plan includes.

The pitch workspaces are genuinely useful for prospecting, running 25 prompts across three engines for seven days with an option to extend. The economics of servicing won clients are the harder part.

Key takeaway: Profound's agency pricing scales per client workspace at $399 a month, so an agency's platform cost tracks its roster size directly.

Is there a free trial? Seven days on Growth

The Growth plan carries a "Try for free" action on the pricing page, so the trial attaches to the mid tier rather than to Starter. Starter offers a straight signup and Enterprise routes to a demo. Profound's help material describes a seven-day window.

One inconsistency is worth flagging. The pricing FAQ still asks whether you should use "Lite or Enterprise," and no Lite plan exists in the current lineup. Stale tier names on the vendor's own page are part of why third-party pricing for this tool is so unreliable.

Key takeaway: Profound's free trial runs on the Growth plan for seven days, and its pricing FAQ still references a retired Lite tier that new customers cannot buy.

Published pricing, every feature on every plan

Profound's engines, regions, exports and API move with the tier, and Enterprise pricing is a conversation. ContentMonk publishes $99, $199 and $449, includes every feature at every level, and raises limits as you grow.

Profound rates above Semrush and BrightEdge on G2 and sits slightly below some much newer AEO tools whose review bases are a fraction of the size. A visible share of its corpus is vendor-solicited, carrying G2's incentivized and seller-invite labels, which is standard practice across the category. G2 and Profound also announced a commercial partnership in 2025. Both facts are worth knowing when weighing a score built on a review base this large.

The praise is consistent and specific. Reviewers describe finally being able to see how they appear in AI answers after guessing at it, clean dashboards and weekly summaries that make internal reporting fast, and genuine value in the citation and accuracy work. Support comes up repeatedly as a strength, including access to engineers and prompt specialists, and several reviewers volunteer that they have nothing to dislike.

08 · Who It's Right For

Who Profound is right for

Choose Profound if...

  • Your buying committee needs SOC 2 Type II, SSO and role-based access control before a tool gets approved
  • You want AI visibility measured from the consumer interfaces rather than from model APIs, and you care about the difference
  • Your problem is AI describing your brand inaccurately, and FactCheck's claim-and-source view is the thing you would use weekly
  • You want infrastructure-level visibility into which AI crawlers hit which pages, across unlimited domains
  • You can reach the Enterprise tier, where the engine breadth, regions, languages and API actually live

Look elsewhere if...

  • You need more than one answer engine without committing to $399 a month, where Peec AI or ContentMonk cover more engines lower down
  • You operate in more than one country or language and cannot justify an Enterprise contract
  • You run an agency with a growing roster and cannot absorb $399 a month per client workspace
  • You want Google rank tracking and keyword research in the same subscription as your AI visibility
  • You need a tool that closes the loop between an AI visibility finding and a published page without metered credits or a second product
  • You are looking for a platform that can prove a direct line from AI visibility to revenue, which no tool in this category including ContentMonk does convincingly yet, and where run-to-run volatility remains a shared problem
09 · Alternatives

Profound alternatives

  • Peec AI: $80 a month on annual billing for 50 prompts, three engines chosen from six, and unlimited users, with countries and languages included at no extra cost because pricing tracks prompt volume rather than geography. The closest direct answer to Profound's gating, and the natural comparison for anyone who balked at Starter.
  • ContentMonk: an AEO and SEO platform that keeps tracking, analysis and execution under one roof. It tracks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Claude daily on every plan, adds a native rank tracker, keyword research, Search Console and Analytics, then runs the chain from prioritized opportunity to research-backed brief to finished article to publishing in WordPress and Webflow. Published pricing from $99, every feature on every plan, unlimited workspaces from Pro. Its honest limitation against Profound is that it has no crawler or agent log analytics, and no SOC 2 or SSO.
  • AirOps: far deeper bulk content operations, where Grids run workflows across hundreds of rows and publish into five CMS platforms. Chosen when production volume matters more than measurement depth. It does not publish its Solo or Pro pricing.
  • Scrunch AI: mid-market AI visibility with agency leanings and a strong rating on a much smaller review base. Worth a look for teams between the self-serve tools and enterprise platforms.
  • Otterly.AI: the cheapest credible entry point for straightforward prompt and mention monitoring on a small budget.
  • Semrush: for teams already paying for a full SEO suite who would rather add AI visibility to tooling their team knows than adopt a second platform.

11 · Our Verdict

Our verdict on Profound

Profound has built the most defensible measurement layer in AI search, and the reason is a decision most of its competitors did not make. Reading the consumer front ends instead of model APIs is harder and more expensive, and it means the numbers describe the system a brand is actually trying to influence. Running every prompt daily and averaging the result is the honest way to handle answers that change between reads. Add citation authority scoring, FactCheck's claim-and-source view, infrastructure-level crawler analytics on every tier, and SOC 2 Type II with SSO, and the enterprise case makes itself.

The difficulty is the distance between what the feature pages promise and what the self-serve tiers deliver. Eleven engines are documented and one is included at $99. Thirty-plus languages and 150-plus regions are advertised and one of each is entitled below Enterprise. The API, exports on Starter, Prompt Volumes searches, Shopping and Projects all sit behind a custom contract whose price is not published. Agencies pay $399 a month for every client they service, and lose eight of nine crawler analytics integrations in the process. None of that makes Profound a weak product. It makes it an enterprise product with a self-serve shopfront.

If your procurement team has a security checklist, your question is how accurately AI describes you, and you can reach the tier where the coverage lives, Profound is the strongest choice in the category. If you need visibility across four engines from the first plan, your Google rankings in the same place, and the content production that acts on both, ContentMonk covers that from $99 a month with every feature on every plan and unlimited workspaces from Pro, and it says plainly that it has no crawler analytics or SOC 2 to offer against Profound's.

12 · FAQ

Profound review FAQ

Is Profound a legit company?
Yes. Profound is an established answer-engine-optimization platform used by named enterprise customers including Ramp, DocuSign and Figma, holds SOC 2 Type II compliance, and is among the most-reviewed tools in its category on G2. It publishes both its measurement methodology and its self-serve pricing openly.
How much does Profound AI cost?
Profound's Starter plan is $99 a month month-to-month or $82.50 billed yearly. Growth is $399 a month or $332.50 billed yearly. Enterprise is custom and not published. Agencies pay $399 a month per client workspace on top of an unpublished base fee.
How does Profound get its data?
Profound reads the consumer front ends of AI platforms rather than querying model APIs, on the basis that consumer surfaces use live retrieval and API calls to base models do not. It runs every tracked prompt daily and reports an average, because AI answers vary between reads.
How many AI engines does Profound track?
It depends on the tier. Starter tracks ChatGPT only, Growth tracks ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, and Enterprise reaches up to nine. Profound's feature documentation names eleven platforms it queries, so the documented capability and the tier entitlements do not match.
Does Profound have a free trial?
Yes, on the Growth plan, running seven days. The pricing page places the trial action on Growth rather than Starter, which offers direct signup, while Enterprise routes to a demo instead.
Is Profound worth the money?
It is worth it for enterprise teams that need defensible AI visibility data, security compliance and crawler-level analytics, and that can reach the tier where engine and region coverage live. Cost is the most common objection in its reviews, particularly from smaller teams and agencies working per project.
What's the best alternative to Profound?
Peec AI for more engines and unlimited seats at a lower entry price. ContentMonk for AI visibility across four engines plus native SEO and content production in one platform. AirOps for bulk content operations. Otterly.AI for simple monitoring on a small budget.
